SINGER

SOUND ARTIST

PERFORMER

Singer, sound artist, performer, vocal coach and researcher; born in Siena-Italy, currently based in Berlin.

From my origins in Afro-American, jazz and folk music, ethnomusicology, and my profound experience in the experimental theater, I developed a style of modern storytelling that includes both improvised and traditional music.

I fill the stage with an open performance, with elements of poetry and literature, spoken voices, tape recorders, and sound objects  -

never losing the voice-body connection developed through a very physical theatre experience, as well as my background as a martial artist.

BIOGRAPHY

I started playing music at a young age, studying classical guitar and jazz singing, and very quickly chose the field of improvisation.

I hold an undergraduate degree in “Ethnomusicology” from the University of Bologna and a master’s degree in “Jazz Singing, Improvisation and Music of our Times” from the Music Conservatory of Bologna.

I deepened my Western vocal technique by studying Baroque singing and learned traditional styles such as Dhrupad singing (North India), Nada and Mantra Yoga (Yoga of Sound), Kurdish Dengbej singing style and Turkish Ottoman music.

In addition to performing, I have conducted field research in Italy on traditional music and oral poetry (“Ottava Rima”), made video documentaries, and written several articles

I am a passionate and innovative educator, working since 2005 as a vocal coach for singers and actors.

I lived for ten years in Bologna where I had the chance to worked with many jazz musicians, actors, and directors. For over two years I was a member of an experimental, permanent theater company.

Between 2012 and 2015 while living in Istanbul, I had the opportunity to perform with the best musicians of the local experimental music scene, thereby, enriching my sound with Turkish-Mediterranean melodies, soundscape, street seller’s shouts, and micro-tones.

Since moving to Berlin in 2015, I have been very active in the improv and contemporary music scene of the German capital city.
